You Better Check "Asian"!

Hey my beautiful readers!

It is no brainer that the Filipino Culture is different from any other cultures out there, but it is no different to how American Culture began and that my friends are due to a movement that the monarchy are used to. And that's colonialism! Colonialism started with the Spaniards in 1521. However, the Philippine nation didn't start with the Spanish Era. It started way back in 4000 BC with Taiwanese and Austronesian settlers finding their way to Luzon and Visayas, leaving Mindanao untouched during the Neolithic age.

As I'd like to write more about Philippine History in one blog post, I do have to write about where the Philippines fits in with the entire Asian Culture.

Before I start telling you more about Philippine History, you should know that America is a boiling pot of immigrants, which is the same as the Filipino language is a boiling pot of a variety languages like: Taiwanese, Austronesian languages,  Hindu, Spanish, English, as well as the Greek dialect. If you think in metaphors, the Filipino language is America and immigrants are the languages that makes the Filipino language unique.

The location of the Philippines doesn't make Filipinos, Asians to any Filipinx people. It just makes Filipinos, Asians to white people. In fact, the Philippines is a part of the Austronesian expansion, which began in Taiwan. Historically, Neolithic Filipinos accepted the Austronesian people into the islands, but the question is are some of the Neolithic Filipinos a part of Island Southeast Asians and Melanesians that merged together to become the first ever Polynesians? Only time will tell.

Flash forward to today. Let's think about a form that you fill out to get a job and it asks for your ethnicity and you are a Filipino, for example. What would you check? Would you check Asian or Pacific Islander? Or maybe even other? Whatever it is, Filipinos are people who doesn't need to check a box in order to determine what their ethnicity is. Filipinos are Filipinos. Filipinos deserve better than being called Asians every other people out there, because Philippine History is more complex and advance than anyone would like to think.

Till then,

  1. Ethnicity is different from your nationality, everyone. I'm British-American but I am ethnically Filipinx.
